WACSOF'S GENERAL SECRETARY MR. KOMLAN MESSIE PARTICIPATED TO EXPERTS MEETING ON ECOWAS HARMONISED MINING POLICY
NIAMEY, NIGER, MARCH 01ST 2019.
WACSOF General Secretary, Mr. KOMLAN MESSIE, participated to an experts meeting on ECOWAS harmonised mining policy. Experts came from 15 countries of West Africa. Among participants, were Civil Society Organisations experts from different CSO active in the extractive industry.
Civil Society experts from organisations like ACEP, FORD FOUNDATION, OXFAM, TWN, ROTAB seized this opportunity to actively propose many amendements to the ongoing ECOWAS Model Mining & Mineral Development policy (EMMMDA). Civil Society participation input to the EMMMDA is necessary in bringing tax justice angle and citizen protection view in the formulation of the policy.
The partner FORD FOUNDATION was represented by Mrs. EVA KOUKA QUENUM, program Officer, West Africa for Extractive Industries. Mrs. EVA KOUKA QUENUM reiterated the support of FORD FOUNDATION to the current program on natural resources.
WACSOF General Secretary Mr. KOMLAN MESSIE, took the opportunity to commend the support of FORD FOUNDATION, especially the work of Mrs. EVA KOUKA QUENUM. He said that Mrs KOUKA QUENUM has been efficiently supporting the West African Civil Society and WACSOF through her advices and network for effective implementation of the extractive industries program. She has been instrumental to connecting many key Civil Society Actors in natural resources for their participation into the program.
