ECOWAS MINING SECTOR MINISTERS ADOPTED THE NEW HARMONISED MINING POLICY, WITH THE HELP OF WACSOF AND CSO'S, IN ACCRA, GHANA
WACSOF participated to the validation and adoption meeting of the mining minstersof ECOWAS states, organised by ECOWAS in Accra on May 29th, 2019.
This meeting was organiised by ECOWAS Commission on the Draft ECOWAS Model Mining & Minerals Development Act (EMMMDA) / Implementation Strategy. In attendance were the following Member States: BENIN; BURKINA FASO; COTE D’IVOIRE; THE GAMBIA; GHANA; GUINEA; GUINEA BISSAU; LIBERIA; MALI; NIGER; NIGERIA; SENEGAL; TOGO
Also present were representatives from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) including Ford Foundation in West Africa, West African Civil Society Forum (WACSOF), Oxfam in West Africa, Third World Network – Africa, and Open Society Initiative for West Africa.
The General Secretery of WACSOF, Mr. KOMLAN MESSIE took the opportunity to meet with different ministers and authorities in teh mining sector in West Africa. Pictures below are showing him with the minister of GHANA responsible for mining and the minister of COTE d'IVOIRE, responsable of mining sector. The exchanges included the importance to involve citizens into the governance of the mining sector in our region.

CONCLUSION
The ministerial meeting adopted the Draft Report as amended. In closing, the Chairman expressed his gratitude to the delegates for their cooperation and outstanding quality of contributions which led to a successful meeting
