GOREE INSTITUTE – REGIONAL MEETING ON THE THEME: “STRENGTHENING CITIZEN ENGAGEMENT IN DEMOCRATIC GOVERNANCE IN AFRICA” – GORÉE ISLAND FROM MAY 23 TO 25, 2023

The Goree Institute: Center for Democracy, Development and Culture in Africa, organized a  regional meeting on the theme: “Strengthening citizen engagement in democratic governance in Africa” on the island of Gorée from 23 to 25 May 2023. This meeting is part of the Charter Project Africa which is a pan-African initiative that supports civil society to promote the continental commitments contained in the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG) – the core policy document of the African Union for advancing democratic governance in African Union member states. This program aims to contribute to and overcome the political and structural barriers that limit civil society engagement in the AGA and is designed in recognition of the central role that civil society can play.

This meeting aims to promote citizen engagement in democratic governance in Africa. Participants are  members of civil society organizations that are beneficiaries of the Civic Tech Fund, representatives of international institutions, consortium members, and experts on democratic governance from across Africa.
